Re: Curtis and Native Americans, those interested in another perspective & presentation may want to keep their eye on a newly launched photo project by Matika Wilbur titled 562, which seeks to document contemporary Native America.

The NPR member station in Seattle interviewed her recently: http://www.kuow.org/post/photographer-matika-wilbur-documenting-native-america. The segment with Matika lasts from 17:17-35:11, and the bits I like most are 20:06-24:36 (with 21:50 mentioning Curtis) and 30:15-31:24.
