I want more women in comics. I want more women of color, trans* women, queer women, lesbians, women with disabilities, women with all different body types, women whose powers defy gender-stereotypical powers/abilities. I want them to have main title issues, whole arcs, fleshed-out backstories.

I want them to not always be props. I want them to not just be killed to motivate the hero. I want them to stop being raped as a motivation for their actions. I want to see less of the man carrying the beaten and broken female hero out of the building, because she’s been tortured and now he’s here to save her. I want them to walk out together.

Because one woman for six men in a comic book story is bullshit. Because what defines being a woman in comic books should be as diverse as what it means to be a woman in real life.

I want them to be flawed, to not look like cookie-cutter drawings. I want men to understand that having women in comics does not make it “chick comics,” and even if it did, so what? There are beautiful story-lines with male characters, that guys and women relate to and love. Why can’t you give female characters the same chance?

Most of all, I want to not get as excited about Maria Hill/Black Widow being shown as strong, powerful women in a comic book movie. Because they should have been there and appreciated a long goddamn time ago.

This is what we’re all thinking. All the time. ALWAYS.
